It was also in 1969 that Kable began to perform, as an accommodation to some of its publishers, subscription fulfillment services. As the years progressed, the retailers changed. There was a time when the average retailer was the corner newsstand. Instead the average retailer became the large chain store (supermarket, drug, discount and convenience) selling a variety of merchandise, publications representing just a small portion of their total sales.

Through the years, the newsstand industry profile went through many changes. There were fewer wholesalers. Instead of the more than eight hundred individual wholesaler agencies in business in 1932 when Kable first entered the business, the totals today are less than 100 owners, where three owners represent nearly 90% of North American newsstand sales. Many individuals own more than one agency; ownership no longer rests in the local community.

The national distributor ranks also dwindled due to consolidations and business failures with most of the survivors owned by large public companies. While this reduction in numbers would normally make each of the remaining companies more profitable, the difficult and very competitive marketplace has produced financial challenges for everybody.

In 1988 Kable acquired Publishers Aide, a West Coast fulfillment company, and merged its operations with that of its fulfillment subsidiary.

In 1993, Kable acquired Capital Distributing, a competitive National Distributor, and merged their operation and circulation activities into Kable’s.

In early 1995, Kable acquired the business of Fulfillment Corporation of America to add staff and management resources to its rapidly growing Fulfillment Service division.

In 2003, Kable acquired the subscription fulfillment operations from EDS.

In 2007, AMREP Corporation announced the unification of Kable Fulfillment Services and Palm Coast Data, which streamlined operations, improved service to clients, created cost efficiencies, and eliminated operating redundancies in the magazine subscription, membership, and direct mail fulfillment services departments.

Kable Media Services is now located on Wall St. in Manhattan’s Financial District.
